Today is the last day of class. Although I haven't been as diligent as others with homework, I do feel that I have picked up quite a few new tips. I have been surprised that some of the lessons have included things that I have already tried before - that I know more than I thought I knew!

Something (that I already knew) is that I remember something when I need to know it much better than just learning something for the sake of it. Therefore, I am very grateful for your very detailed notes, Philip, because when next I need something, I know where I can find out!!

In discussion with a colleague, I have decided that I will (next term) create a webpage for AMEP excursions so that teachers can find out where other teachers have visited and use their worksheets/information instead of creating their own each time.

So, although I haven't completed my homework for the last few weeks, I will do so next term! May be a few phone calls then, so be prepared!

Consumerism a national religion, says ACF boss

The president of the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) says Australians are living in an unsustainable way and nothing is being done to improve the scenario.
Professor Ian Lowe has addressed the National Press Club in Canberra.
He says the Federal Government is failing to address the crisis.
"Consumerism is now our unofficial national religion, with ever larger shopping centres being built so we can worship seven days a week," he said.
"The present policy settings in Australia would lead any outside observer to conclude that we either can't see that we are living unsustainably, or are too short-sighted to care."
He has also accused the Government of pressuring scientists not to conduct research that may have an impact on public policy.
"Research organisations and individual researchers are now increasingly practising what a colleague called a 'pre-emptive crumble', falling over before they are pushed and taking great care not to antagonise the national Government," he said.
"Given the problems we face, we should be encouraging new ideas and supporting challenges to conventional wisdom, not suppressing them."

NZ tests find Aussie pies short on meat

I am still wandering from pillar to post with very little idea as to what I am doing. I am obviously able to create and edit - and then remember how to do it again - but I'm still not too sure of the point of all this. The language is still a bit beyond me - settings? template? moderate comments? Can someone help?

Looking forward to next Thursdays class to get some questions answered!
